Applications
ERYtech Pharma offers a new solution for the use of therapeutic enzymes by increasing their half life and reducing their toxicity.

Therapeutic enzymes are very often characterized by their toxicity. Thanks to their encapsulation into red blood cells, enzymes are active only inside the erythrocyte. Hypersensitivity reactions, which decrease the effectiveness of the treatment, are prevented.

Moreover, enzymes have a very short half life, going from a few minutes to a maximum of a few days. Encapsulated enzymes’ half life is increased up to that of the erythrocyte; they become active longer than under their free form – up to one month – and at a lower dosage – dosages are reduced about 100 fold.

Cancer therapy
Some tumor cells are auxotrophic: they feed on proteins contained in the plasma. These elements are essential to their development and proliferation. Cleaving these proteins with specific therapeutic enzymes leads to their regression. The Cleav’ERY system can thus be implemented with enzymes known to be tumor regression factors but which have a very short half life, require repetitive injections and provoke allergic reactions.
This new therapeutic approach strongly increases therapeutic index.

Enzyme deficiency
Enzyme deficiencies are characteristic of certain rare genetic diseases. Injections of the required enzymes encapsulated into red blood cells using the Cleav’ERY system aim at reducing the enzyme deficiency and significantly improve patients’ comfort and life conditions.
